If I could give you one good tip for choosing the right paint color for your cabinets, it is to try it out first. Don’t just rely on the tiny paint swatch you get from the hardware store. I would suggest purchasing a few pieces of white poster board at the Dollar Store and painting each one with the paint samples you have picked out.
Once those mega sample-size paint chips are dry, attach them to your existing cabinets using painter’s tape. Don’t just put them up for a few hours; keep them up for several days, making sure to check out the color in both daylight and at night.
It is important to see this dark paint color in a lot of natural light. I also found it important to move the color all around the room, even near appliances and backsplash material.
