Why go and spend your money on garlic knots when you can make them at home? A big basket of garlic knots is a great party treat and is pretty easy to make if you use pre-made pizza dough.
These are the perfect rolls for your Thanksgiving (or Easter, pizza night or family dinner) table! They are chewy and soft and have lots and lots of garlicky, buttery flavor!
You can’t eat just one. At least I can’t.
You will see that just one batch could turn into a meal for one. If thinking ahead, you may just want to double up on this recipe. Just make sure that you make enough for everyone because they’re going to go quickly as everyone reaches for 2 or more each.
Ingredients Needed To Make
- 1 store-buttermilk biscuit dough – Our family prefers using Pillsbury or Aldi’s brand
- 1 tbsp chopped garlic
- 2 tbsp Parmesan Cheese
- ¾ stick melted butter
- 2 tbsp chopped basil or 1 tbsp dried Italian seasoning
- sauce for dipping (your favorite)
Instructions to Make Garlic Knots
Please note that there is a printable version of this recipe listed below.
STEP ONE: Tie each rope into a little knot. First, create a ‘U’ shape and then cross the top. The piece of dough that is on top will then fold back and under, coming through the center hole, and tying a knot. Then take the ends and tuck them into the center.
It is important to allow your mixture to stick into the folds.
STEP TWO: Then you are ready to mix up your basting sauce. Mix melted butter, Parmesan, minced garlic, and fresh basil, or substitute with dried Italian seasoning in a bowl, and slather that buttery goodness over top.
STEP THREE: Bake ‘til golden. I like to save some of the melted butter (without anything else to baste on the knots after they are done cooking, as well as sprinkle some Parmesan cheese on top.
Bake them for about 10-15 minutes at 375 degrees.

- Grated Parmesan cheese can also be sprinkled on the rolls before baking.
- If you have leftovers, these rolls can be stored in an airtight container for up to 5 days. You can also feel free to freeze them for up to 3 months. After freezing, when you are ready to eat them, reheat them by placing them in a 425° oven for about 6 minutes.
