Are you looking for a recipe that will knock it out of the park and impress your guests without all the complex work? This stuffed strawberry angel food cake recipe is an easy semi-homemade recipe that looks and tastes like it came straight from the bakery!

But, SHHHHHH….. we won’t say a word that you didn’t spend all day in the kitchen baking. Did you know? That angel food cake is really delicious and very low in calories. Although this cake doesn’t look low cal, it truly is.

This recipe calls for strawberries, but you can substitute raspberries or any type of berries you like. One slice of this cake (serves 8) is only 111 calories. How satisfying is that?

Ingredients Needed For Strawberry Angel Food Cake

  • 1 box Angel Food Cake (Betty Crocker is great, just add water!)
  • 12 oz container of frozen sweetened strawberries
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • Powdered sugar (optional)

How to Make Stuffed Strawberry Angel Food Cake

STEP ONE: Make your Angel Food Cake based on the box instructions.

STEP TWO: To make your strawberry swirl (this is all homemade). Place frozen sweetened strawberries in a blender or food processor and pulse until slightly broken down. You will want to make sure that you have no large chunks.

STEP THREE: Then place chunked strawberries and cornstarch in a saucepan and simmer until thickened. Remove from heat and your strawberry puree to cool completely. 

STEP FOUR: Next, place half your batter in your pan. Then swirl your blended strawberries using a piping bag or sandwich bag with the corner snipped. Then cover the strawberry swirl with the remaining cake batter.

STEP FIVE: Bake your cake. You will follow the baking directions as written on your cake box. Once baked allow the cake to cook completely before removing it from the pan.

STEP SIX: The last and final step is to lightly dust it with powdered sugar. After your cake has cooled.

  1. Followed recipe exactly as indicated, but after taking out of oven and turning it upside down on a bottle neck the cake fell apart.. Has anyone else had this happen? What did I do wrong? Ate it anyway, very tasty nonetheless.

      Gosh, I am very sorry to hear your cake fell apart. That is not fun at all. Did you allow it to cool completely? If it is the slightest bit warm it will fall apart. The strawberry needs to congeal. It is one of those finiky cakes.
