I find it so annoying when a recipe calls for an ingredient you don’t have on hand. Not only is it quick—you can whip up a batch in about 30 seconds. Homemade curry powder is such a cinch to throw together.
Homemade Seasonings just taste better than store-bought versions. Plus YOU control the ingredients No preservatives and ingredients you can’t pronounce. I like to make ours in a larger batch since we use it so frequently.
This is the recipe mix I came up with. I hope you enjoy it as much as my family does. Now quick mention – one of our family’s favorite recipes is this Peach Yogurt Curry Marinated Pork Chops.
Let’s get started making your own batch. But first, you will need to get out your measuring spoons.
What are the spices needed to make curry powder?
Since this is made from spices, it’s naturally gluten-free (just make sure your chili powder and all spices are GF). Please note you will find the full recipe card below, which means you can print it for later use.
- 2 tablespoon Coriander powder
- 1 tablespoon Cumin powder
- 1 tablespoon Turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon Cayenne (for hot, less for milder)
- 1 tablespoon Smoked Sweet Paprika
- ½ teaspoon Ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon Chili powder
How To Make Your Seasoning Mix
It’s pretty easy to make a spice blend. Line up all the spices you’ll be using. Find your measuring spoons and get ready to measure.
Combine the ingredients. Combine everything in a small jar, cover, and shake until evenly combined.
Then Store. A batch of homemade curry seasoning should last you about a year! This is fantastic news. A tightly-sealed mason jar is a great way to store your homemade taco seasoning, or a Ziploc bag with the excess air pushed out of it works well, too.
Storage Tip: It’s best if it’s stored in a cupboard or pantry, not on the countertop or by your stove. Just make sure they are clean and completely dry. Please also check out How To Store Spices And Keep Spices Fresh.
Pro Tip: It can be easy to forget which spice you have added to your bowl.
To make it easier, take all the caps off your spices and as you use them, place the caps back on. This way you will know which you have used and which ones you still need to add to your spice mix.
However you use it, this homemade curry seasoning recipe is a great one to have in your back pocket. So go raid your spice drawer and let’s make a quick batch together!
You can also use your homemade curry seasoning in:
- soups
- salad dressings
- dips
- popcorn
- tossed over oven-roasted potatoes
- sprinkled over your favorite grilled veggies
- as a rub for chicken, pork, or beef
- and of course, all sorts of yummy Indian or Thai entrees!

Very pleased with the end result! I did add a small amount of salt and garlic powder…all the spices I used were organic..as shop bought curry powder gives me headaches, I was desperate to make my own. Yours was the one I chose, and I’m very pleased…It will probably last a month before I have to make more. Thankyou!
Thank you so much, Kerry!!!! I appreciate you letting me know you love my homemade curry powder. Can you recall how much extra salt and garlic powder you added? In case, anyone else wants to try this version as well.
