Raise your hand if you grew up with a box of Bisquick in your pantry. And now we are doing the same. Bisquick is a great pantry staple because it reduces the number of ingredients you need for a recipe. Plus, the bonus is having it anytime you need it. This recipe only takes five minutes to put together from start to finish. And I know what you are thinking.
“This is fantastic! Since it seems that the makers of Bisquick has changed its recipe”
We could all use some quick and easy pull-together pantry staples. What I love about this mix is it starts as a plain Jane base and you can pretty doctor it up and create a variety of recipes with it.
There are so many things that can be made from Biscuit Mix. From savory foods like biscuits and chicken pot pie to desserts like coffee cake and peach cobbler. And if you are looking for more Copycat Recipes to make at home here are my Best & Favorite Restaurant Copycat Recipes.
Bisquick is Versatile
For years I’ve used Bisquick. Almost every biscuit I’ve baked has started with a Bisquick mix. But lately, I’ve been leaving it off of my shopping list. I found two reasons: I can make it at home and I can make it cheaper than purchasing it from the store. So, keeping it in the pantry just now seems unnecessary.
Ingredients for This Copycat Bisquick Mix:
- 6 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons baking powder
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 cup vegetable shortening- See substitutions below
That’s it! You’ll add other things to this mix when you make your pancakes, waffles, or biscuits. You can easily double or triple this recipe to make enough for later. It is so simple!
Do I have to Use Shortening?
The short answer is no, you don’t.
I like to use shortening because it is great for storage and it is what I have on hand all the time. Another option besides shortening is lard. Keep in mind that lard will go bad. It is a good idea to keep it in the fridge until you are ready to use it.
You can also use butter. Just like with the lard, you will need to store the mix in your refrigerator or freezer to keep it fresher for longer. With butter or lard, you’ll want to use this mix within 2 months.
