Create your own homemade shower gel with all-natural ingredients. This shower gel recipe is simple to make and will leave your skin feeling smooth, silky, and cleansed.
How to Make Your Own Homemade Shower Gel
Shower gel can make your skin look and feel amazing, and it can also make you feel as though taking a simple shower is pampering yourself. However, purchasing shower gel from the store can get expensive, and sometimes you canโt find a scent that just feels and smells like you.
You also have the benefit of knowing exactly what is in the soap that you will be putting on your body. All you need to make homemade shower gel is Castile soap, pure aloe vera gel, shea butter, vitamin E oil, vegetable glycerin, and your favorite essential oils.
Once you purchase all these ingredients, you will create not one batch, but many. I typically create at least three before I need to purchase aloe vera gel again. All the other ingredients last a lot longer.
About Skin Care Ingredients for Body Wash
Castile Soap – is made from safe, simple plant oils, it is considered safe for even the most sensitive skin types. The oils found in Castile soap penetrate pores with their antibacterial agents, helping clean your skin without drying it out.
Aloe Vera – Contains anti-inflammatory and analgesic qualities to alleviate dryness and itchy skin. It helps to rejuvenate the skin.
Vitamin E – is a powerful antioxidant, that promotes healthy skin and cell regeneration. Just an FYI, Vitamin E oil is sticky and thick and does take a little bit to dissolve.
Vegetable Glycerin – helps the skin retain moisture, provides softening qualities, and makes the body wash gentler.
Shea Butter – can improve skin elasticity and reduce wrinkles. It is an intense moisturizer for rough skin. Please note that this will make the shower gel appear cloudy.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Castile soap
- 3/4 cup pure aloe vera gel
- 10 drops of Vitamin E oil
- 2 tablespoons of vegetable glycerin
- 2 tablespoons of Shea Butter
- 20-30 drops of essential oils (your choice)
You will need a container for your shower gel. I really like this one I got off Amazon, but you can use what you like best.
How to Make Your Homemade Shower Gel
Mix all the ingredients in a mixing bowl, and stir until well combined. An immersion blender may help to incorporate the aloe vera gel more evenly. Pour your shower gel into an empty container or pump dispenser and it is ready to use.

Homemade Shower Gel – Frequently Asked Questions
Shake your homemade shower gel well before each use. It is normal for the homemade shower gel to separate a little in between use. A good shake will mix it back together.
Do you have to add water to the shower gel?
No, you donโt have to add water if you donโt want to, however, adding some water to it will make your Castile soap go further and make it easier to pump the shower gel if you are using a foaming pump or another type of pump bottle.
Should homemade shower gel be refrigerated?
You donโt have to refrigerate your homemade shower gel unless you have added ingredients that are food like avocado or coconut.
In those cases, your shower gel could begin to mold without refrigeration. In all other cases, it is unnecessary unless you just enjoy cold shower gel in a warm shower.
