Halloween Oreo Chocolate Chip Spider Cookies

Spooky never tasted so sweet— Don’t you love getting into the spirit of Halloween fun? Halloween is just a fun holiday celebration. It is filled with silly, fun, and spooky things. Nothing says Halloween better than these homemade chocolate chip spider cookies.
Your friends, kids, and co-workers will love these sweet treats. I may be partial. They are almost too adorable to eat. These Spooky Spider Oreo Halloween Cookies are simple to make.
Ingredients Needed for Chocolate Chip Spider Cookies
- ¾ cup softened butter
- ¾ cup of sugar
- 2 eggs
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2½ cups flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- A sandwich bag filled with Oreos, coarsely crushed (I used about 12)
- 12 oz bag of white chocolate chips
- Extra Oreo cookies
- Black decorating gel
- Candy eyes
Let’s Get Started
First, pull out those Oreo cookies, and let’s get to cookie up some spooky spider cookies. The best part of holiday baking is getting the kids involved in making these spooky cookies. Give those little hands a bag filled with cookies and allow them to smash, crush, and enjoy. I like to use my meat tenderizing mallet for this job.
I, of course, use the flat end. Just be careful that little fingers don’t get in the way of the mallet. You can certainly find fun things to crush your cookies with… like heavy cups, wooden building blocks, etc. Just be aware that your bags may break open as mine did below.
It is very easy to have “TOO MUCH” fun crushing cookies.
Next, pull out that mixing bowl. Cream together butter, brown sugar, sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Whip up until light and fluffy.
Then, in a second bowl, mix flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
Now grab your bowl with your wet ingredients back out. You are now going to want to add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and combine them.
To complete the cookie dough batter, you will now add the Oreos and the white chocolate chips to the batter and mix well. I can hear these Halloween spider cookies calling my name!! Okay, if spiders talked. 😉

My family loves extra-large cookies. To avoid the cookie batter spreading on a cookie sheet into one giant cookie, we like to use a whoopie pie pan. This does help so much and you get nice-looking cookies. It makes your cookies look more symmetrical.
Bake for 8-10 minutes or until they just begin to brown. Let them cool completely on the cookie sheet. We used decorating gel to ‘glue’ on an Oreo to the center of each cookie.
You can now add a dot of decorating gel to the back of each of the candy eyes and stick it into place. I used these Wilton Candy Eyes. Halloween Spider Cookies – perfect party treat.
If you don’t have decorating gel, you can use melted chocolate candy melts.
Also, using decorating gel on hand, you can use it to pipe on 8 spider legs. If not, you can substitute by using melted chocolate.
Directions for using chocolate candy melts:
- Let’s start by melting your chocolate candy melts.
- Pour 1/2 cup of candy melts into a microwaved safe bowl.
- Microwave on high for 30-second intervals. Stirring each time. Do not overcook.
- Once completely melted, pour into a plastic bag and cut a small hole in the corner. Or instead of using a sandwich bag, you can also use a piping bag with tip #3. You will miss out on the convenience of just tossing away the mess. Unless, of course, you are using a disposable piping bag.
Lasting using your melted chocolate pipe on 8 gel spider legs to finish your cookie. Have no FEAR. Each cookie will be similar, yet unique looking.

Storing Your Spider Cookies
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks or store on the countertop in an airtight container for up to one 1 week.
If kept in the fridge, your cookies will be very hard. I am sure that they won’t even make it that long in your home. They are that good. You can also freeze these cookies. They hold up well. They will last up to 3 months in the freezer. Just keep them in a place that will protect them from damage.

- A sandwich bag filled with Oreos, coarsely crushed (I used about 12)
- 12 oz bag white chocolate chips
- Extra Oreo cookies
- Black decorating gel
- Candy eyes
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or use non-stick spray. We like giant cookies so we used a whoopie-pie pan.
- In a bowl, mix together butter, brown sugar, sugar, eggs, and vanilla.
- In a second bowl, mix flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and combine.
- In a sandwich bag, crush the Oreos. You don’t want them to be finely crushed, you want to have chunks of Oreo in your cookies!
- Add the Oreos and the white chocolate chips to the batter and mix well.
- You will want the cookies to be large enough to hold an Oreo spider. We used a whoopie-pie pan on one batch and the other we used a large ice cream scoop.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes or until they just begin to brown. Let them cool completely on the cookie sheet.
- Once the cookies are cool, use the decorating gel to ‘glue’ on an Oreo to the center of each cookie.
- Add a dot of decorating gel to the back of each of the candy eyes and stick it into place. And 8 gel spider legs finish your cookie.
