Maybe you have been there, standing in that long line at Starbucks, waiting to order your coffee and double chunk brownie, and just wished you could find a recipe to make the brownies at home. Well, my friend, you just did!
No more standing in line. The best part is the savings. Instead of spending $3 for one single brownie, you can make 8 of them for a fraction of that cost. Now isn’t that sweet? If you are a chocolate lover or brownie fan at all, then you will fall head over heels in love with these brownies.
The original Starbucks chunk brownies contain chunks of chocolate. And these are what make the brownies. I like to use bakers’ chocolate chopped into chunks, but if you don’t have these chocolate chips will work just as well.

What Ingredients Do You Need to Make These Double Chocolate Brownies?
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs, brought to room temp
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour, scooped and leveled
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips, chunks, or chopped bakers’ chocolate
How to Make Chocolate Brownies
The best thing about these Starbucks Chunk Brownies is how easy they are to make. No special equipment is required. You’ll be able to find everything you need in even the most basic of kitchens. You need a bowl, a spoon or spatula, and a baking pan.
That is it!! – simple!
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly spray an 8×8 inch baking pan, then line it with parchment paper, spraying it first helps the parchment paper to stick.
In a medium-sized bowl, melt the butter in 15-second increments (so it doesn’t explode) until fully melted. Then add granulated sugar to the melted butter and whisk to combine.
In this same bowl, add the eggs, one by one, and then the vanilla. Whisk until incorporated.
Baker’s Tip: The key to a successful Starbucks brownie is a smooth batter. When beating the eggs, sugar, and butter together, keep mixing until it goes a really pale blonde color.
Sift in the cocoa powder, salt, and flour and stir using a rubber spatula.
Add in 1 1/2 cups of the chocolate (chips, chunks, or chopped pieces) and fold it together with the rubber spatula.
Pour into the baking dish. And then add in the remaining chocolate chunks or chips to the top and lightly press them into the mixture.
Bake for 25-30 mins (until the edges are set, and a toothpick comes out with a few crumbs but no batter). You will notice the brownies pulling away from the sides of the pan.
Allow to cool completely, then slice and serve.
Baker’s Tip – Only cut your brownies when cool. This might take about an hour. But it will allow you to slice into clean and not messy brownies.
How to Store Your Brownies
Store brownies at room temperature by wrapping them tightly in plastic wrap or foil, or by placing them in an airtight container, such as a lidded tray or plastic container with a lid.
This will prevent your brownies from going stale and keep possible contaminants out. You can also freeze them for up to 6 months. Brownies freeze well in an airtight container.
