9 Uses for Liquid Castile Soap

Castile soap is an amazing product with many uses, from head-to-toe body care to cleaning around your home. Traditionally, soap is made from animal fat, but not Castile soap.

It is made from vegetable oils instead of animal fats, traditionally olive oil. However, this type of soap can be made from any vegetable oil, including hemp oil, avocado oil, and coconut oil, among many others.

This natural, nontoxic, biodegradable soap is available in bar or liquid form. This soap was made in the Mediterranean before its use spread to Europe. Hence the name. Let’s talk about some of the different ways that you can use Castile soap for personal care and around your home.

DIY Fruit and Veggie Wash

We all want to know that the fruits and vegetables that we feed our families are clean and pesticide-free, but those produce cleaners at the grocery store can be rather expensive.

Make your own budget-friendly produce wash with a ¼ teaspoon of Castile soap and a bowl of clean water. Submerge your produce, swish them around a bit, and give them a rinse with clean water.

Pump Soap Refill

Hand soap can be really expensive. This recipe is great for sensitive skin as it is very gentle. This recipe for homemade liquid hand soap also doubles as a body wash. It’s a quick and easy way to make sure you know exactly what ingredients your family is using!

To make combine the following ingredients.

  • ¼ cup of Castile soap
  • 1 tablespoon sweet almond oil
  • ¾ cup of water
  • few drops of your favorite essential oils

DIY Dish Soap with Liquid Castile Soap

It’s easy to grab a bottle of dish soap at the grocery store, but I highly encourage you to make your own instead. Making your own dish soap can save you lots of money, cut down on toxic products in your home, and is much better for the environment.

To make combine the following ingredients.

  • 2/3 cup unscented Castile soap
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons washing soda for extra grease-fighting power
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable glycerin
  • 20 drops of your favorite essential oil
  • 1 1/2 cups of water

Plus, you can make your own Homemade Shower Gel too.

Insect Repellent

Have an ant problem after a few days of rain? You can fix that easily with this DIY insect repellent. Just mix up ¼ cup of Castile soap with tea tree oil into a quart of warm water and mix.

Put it in a spray bottle and spray areas where you have seen ants. If you don’t have Castile soap with tea tree oil in it, just add a few drops of tea tree oil to your soap and water mixture.

DIY Shaving Cream

You can use Castile soap as a replacement for shaving cream. Just rub a few drops in between your wet hands to lather it up and use it on your face, arms, or legs as a shaving cream replacement.

The essential oils in the soap should reduce any knicks or irritation your skin might have from shaving.

Natural Toothpaste

Yep, this may seem crazy, but this soap is so safe that you can even use it to brush your teeth. Just put a drop or two on your toothbrush and brush, as usual!

I have heard though you can’t use more than a few drops or the taste becomes unbearable. I personally haven’t had the guts to try this one out yet.

Kill Dust Mites on Your Bedding with Castile Soap

You can use ⅓ cup of Castile soap added to your washing machine to kill dust mites on your bedding. Just put the soap in as you would the detergent, and add ½ a cup of vinegar to the fabric softener compartment to be released during the rinse cycle.

Once your bedding is washed, put it in the dryer set on the hottest setting and you will have soft, clean, dust-mite-free bedding.

Bathtub Cleaner

Not only can you use Castile soap to make body wash and scrubs for yourself, but you can also use it to clean your bathtub.

Mix two to three tablespoons of Castile soap with ¼ cup of baking soda for an all-natural scrubbing agent that will leave your tub and shower clean and shiny.

Mop Your Floors

If you are looking for a natural way to keep the floors of your home sparkling clean, just add a ¼ cup of Castile soap to your bucket of warm water and mop away!

Here is a great article that includes different floor types and cleaning them with Castile soap.

These are just a few of the many ways that you can use Castile soap as a natural cleaner on yourself and around your home. It is a versatile and natural cleaner.
