If you love Philly Cheesesteaks as much as my family does… you will enjoy this incredibly easy and simple recipe. What makes the best steak & cheesesteak wraps? Using the absolute best cut of beef, of course!

This is the first key to a good steak wrap is using the right cut of meat (skirt steak) and having it cut properly. Since the meat takes center stage here, it is important to have a good quality cut. If you don’t see skirt steak at your butcher counter, ask your butcher if they have it on hand.

Sometimes it isn’t readily available, but they are happy to get it for you in the future. I buy my steak, already shaved thin. Many butchers are happy to slice it for you, and some meat counters will already have it packaged that way. Thinly sliced skirt steak is the key to this fast cooking time and still having tender steak.

What is great about this recipe?

Less than 15 minutes to make – If you’ve never made a Philly cheese steak before, you’ll be surprised by how easy it isOnce you get all your veggies chopped and ready to go, this recipe comes together pretty quickly.

Great flavor – is rich and salty, complemented with added optional ingredients like onions, peppers, and delicious spices.

It works with any size flour tortilla – Do you feel like eating multiple Philly cheesesteak wraps? You can go ahead and use the small soft taco size or eat your way through a large burrito-sized tortilla.

The BEST Philly Cheesesteak recipe, quick, easy, the real deal. Made with sliced beef, onions and cheese, this sandwich is ready in minutes!

Slicing your meat for Cheesesteak

If you aren’t able to have it shaved for you, then freeze the meat before cooking, and you’ll find a frozen steak much easier to cut thinly. I have a meat slicer on hand for making our own luncheon meats, and you could also use this for cutting your steak thinly.

If you don’t have a meat slicer, that is okay. Here is my quick tip for slicing your meat thinly. Freeze your meat for roughly 30 minutes. Wrap in plastic wrap and place on a plate to freeze. Side note: You don’t want to end up with rock-solid frozen meat, so don’t forget to set a timer.

Once your meat is semi-frozen, grab a sharp knife and your good cutting board and prepare to slice thinly. Slicing the steak thinly should be no problem at all. You’ll want to get slices that are no more than ¼” thick. The thinner the better. But all you can do is try your best.

I highly recommend trying white American cheese on your cheesesteak wraps. It adds a creamy, melty, and salty quality to the cheesesteak that completes these wraps. A classic cheese for a classic meal.

However, you have a choice. After all, it is your wrap. Other popular choices are provolone, New York sharp cheddar, and Monterey Jack.

How to Make Steak & Cheese Wraps

Steak and onions cooking in saute pan on stove - medium heat

First, we will start off with a bit of oil, steak, peppers, onions, and, of course, some seasoning in a non-stick skillet

You can not have a steak & cheese wrap without cooking peppers and onions. You must preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Then add in your oil. Then add in your sliced meat, chopped onions, and peppers. Cook until the beef is browned.

With the steak cut so thin, it cooks fast and easily.

If you like your bell peppers and onions a bit more caramelized, you may want to start cooking them for a few minutes before adding your steak to the pan.

Adding cheese to steak and cheese wraps

Man OH! Man…. does this look amazing. Steak & cheese wraps here we go!

For these steak wraps, I do drop the seasoning, sauce, and cheese directly into the skillet to melt. Like Emeril Lagasse would say “BAMM”.

Having a non-stick pan is key to this step. (Did I mention lots of cheese is involved?) If you prefer, you can just top the meat and vegetable mixture with cheese in the tortilla, but I think mixing together really combines the flavors.

Philly cheesesteak should be greasy, cheesy, and of course, have great bread.
